California ‘Right to Return’ Hotel Worker Bill With Newsom (1)

A California bill to prioritize laid-off hospitality workers for rehiring as businesses recover from the Covid-19 pandemic now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom after the Legislature approved the proposal Thursday.

The California Senate voted 25-11 in favor of the measure (S.B. 93), which sets aside $6 million for the Labor Commissioner’s Office to implement and enforce the bill. The Assembly approved it 54-19 Monday. If signed into law, the changes would take effect immediately.

Newsom, a Democrat, vetoed a similar bill last year because he said it would have placed an additional burden on hotels during the pandemic....
