U.S. Initial Jobless Claims Decline for a Sixth Consecutive Week

Applications for U.S. state unemployment insurance fell for a sixth straight week, consistent with further improvement in the labor market and robust economic growth.

Initial claims in regular state programs decreased by 9,000 to 376,000 in the week ended June 5, Labor Department data showed Thursday. The median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of economists called for 370,000 applications.

Continuing claims for ongoing state benefits fell by 258,000 in the week ended May 29, the biggest drop since mid-March, to 3.5 million.
