Black Nurse Suing Over Remarks About Obamas Gets EEOC Backing

A federal judge in Alabama failed to weigh all of a Black nurse’s evidence of a hostile work environment and used the wrong analysis in rejecting her claims based on workplace harassment, including racist remarks about former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, the EEOC told the Eleventh Circuit.

The evidence the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama considered included Cynthia Yelling’s White co-workers saying President Obama should “go back to Africa,” Michelle Obama looked like a “monkey,” and that certain Black patients were “crack heads,” “welfare queens,” and “ghetto fabulous,” the Equal Employment...
