Case: Discrimination/Discharge (7th Cir.)

Sufficient evidence backed a jury’s finding that the Chicago Park District fired a Hispanic supervisor based on her national origin, not because she falsified time sheets. The evidence included her multiple promotions over more than 20 years as a district employee, the district’s departure from the union disciplinary process, including not offering her a pre-disciplinary agreement, and numerous material errors in the district’s investigations of her, the court said. In addition, there was statistical evidence that the district similarly mistreated and disciplined more harshly other Hispanic employees, which supported an inference of bias, the court stated.
