Chicago Park District Must Pay Hispanic Worker $465,163 for Bias

Sufficient evidence backed a jury’s finding that the Chicago Park District fired a Hispanic supervisor based on her national origin, not because she falsified time sheets, the Seventh Circuit ruled.

The evidence included Lydia Vega’s strong track record over more than 20 years as a district employee, which included multiple promotions, the court said, mostly upholding a lower court’s judgment in her favor. It also included the district’s departure from the union disciplinary process, including not offering Vega a pre-disciplinary agreement, the court said.
