Chicago’s Minimum Pay Up to $14 an Hour, Outpacing State’s Boost

Chicago’s covered minimum-wage workers get a pay boost Wednesday in the final step before the city reaches the $15-an-hour threshold on July 1, 2021.

The city’s minimum wage increases to $14 an hour, from $13, on Wednesday. The Chicago pay increase was approved in November by the City Council as part of the first city budget proposed by Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D), who vowed during her 2019 mayoral campaign to raise the city’s minimum wage and has made combating poverty a central element of her agenda.
