Ecuadorian Chiquita Workers Lose Bid to Get Pulled Exposé Docs

Ecuadorian nationals who allege that Chiquita Brands International Inc. and other U.S. companies exposed them to a toxic pesticide decades ago while working on banana plantations lost their bid to compel the Cincinnati Enquirer to testify and produce documents related to an investigative piece it later retracted, the Southern District of Ohio ruled.

The Enquirer fired one of the reporters who wrote the article and retracted the exposé after finding he used voicemails illegally obtained from Chiquita’s voicemail system, the court said.
