EEOC Debuts ‘Official Time’ Final Rule in Late-Term Push (1)

The federal government’s workplace civil rights agency unveiled a final rule to bar federal employees who serve as union representatives from using “official” time to work on discrimination complaints filed by coworkers—giving the regulation a chance of being completed before the transfer of power.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission published the rule on its website Wednesday after the leadership panel voted along party lines to approve it Jan. 7, with the agency’s three Republican leaders voting in favor and the two Democrats against it. The final rule is identical to the proposed version.
