Indiana Law Allows Hiring Preference for Veterans

Companies in Indiana will be able to give preference to veterans when hiring, promoting or retaining employees, under legislation signed May 5 by Gov. Mike Pence (R).

While S.B. 298 allows private sector employers to enact policies that give preference to veterans, it prohibits them from setting policies that conflict with or change an employer’s obligations under a preexisting collectively bargained agreement, the National Labor Relations Act or the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act.
