Military Spouses Protected From Bias, DOL Reminds Contractors (1)

The Labor Department is reminding federal contractors that military spouses and other individuals connected to protected veterans are covered under workplace anti-discrimination laws.

The Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act protects those groups, according to recently published guidance from the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. The agency is a division of the Labor Department responsible for enforcing anti-discrimination laws in workplaces that hold government contracts.

In fiscal year 2018, the OFCCP fielded 132 complaints on the basis of veteran status, according to OFCCP data. That’s a small portion—roughly 10.9%—of total discrimination complaints the agency received that year. It’s collected...
