NYC Law Favoring Car Wash Unions Revived

A New York City law that encourages car wash workers to unionize got revived by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit Dec. 12.

The law gives car washes that enter into collective bargaining agreements, or agree to monthly audits of their pay practices, a break on the bonds they have to post to get business licenses. The bonds are one-fifth what companies that don’t satisfy those conditions have to pay.

The city council enacted the law in 2015 but the Department of Consumer Affairs delayed enforcement after the Association of Car Wash Owners Inc. sued.
