‘Relatively Calm’ Start to Union Salary Negotiations in 2020

Unions rang in the new decade with a steady stream of negotiations that yielded 2.9% average first-year wage increases, according to the first bi-weekly update of Bloomberg Law’s contract settlement database.

A total of 29 contract settlements were added to the database between Jan. 1 and Jan. 13. The start was slightly weaker than the beginning of 2019 when unions achieved a 3% average first-year wage increase across 32 contract settlements in the first two weeks of the year.
