Chile Allows More Time to Declare Taxes Amid Civil Unrest

The Chilean government is giving companies more time to file tax returns and meet other requirements as many struggle in the country’s worst unrest in a generation.

Hundreds of businesses have been looted and thousands closed after civil disobedience tied to a rise in metro fares escalated into widespread protests and rioting over living costs. The Santiago Chamber of Commerce estimates that the unrest has cost $1.4 billion in losses tied to vandalism and lost sales.
