China’s Tech Sector Crackdown Includes Increased Tax Scrutiny

China is scrutinizing the tax practices of tech companies as part of of its antitrust-led crackdown on the sector.

The government said in a statement Tuesday that officials of the State Administration of Taxation, along with the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Central Cyberspace Administration had met with internet company representatives to issue guidance to the sector.

  • Platform companies must conduct comprehensive investigations of tax-related issues in accordance with tax laws, regulations, policies and systems, and take the initiative to conduct self-examination and self-correction, the statement said.
