Dutch Fight Against Tax Avoidance Needs Allies: Finance Official

More international collaboration will be needed to curb global profit shifting, even if the Netherlands passes a law to block countries from using it to facilitate tax avoidance, a senior Dutch finance official said.

The government’s proposal for a 21.7% withholding tax on royalty and interest payments from the Netherlands to low-tax jurisdictions would greatly dampen the country’s appeal as a profit-shifting destination, State Secretary for Finance Menno Snel said during Nov. 13 parliamentary debate.
