Germany Launches New Task Force to Fight Tax Fraud

The German Finance Ministry is launching a new unit dedicated to fighting tax fraud and tax avoidance.

The task force’s goal will be to pool expertise and analyze data to speed up identification of structures that enable large-scale tax avoidance, the government said in an FAQ published Nov. 18.

  • The unit’s main responsibilities will be to help local authorities coordinate anti-tax-fraud efforts at the federal level and help agencies with open cases such as the cum-ex tax fraud scheme, which cost Germany billions in tax revenue.
