Ireland has immediately increased the amount of carbon tax it applies to car fuel by 30%, Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe announced during his 2020 budget speech Oct. 8.
The amount of tax applied will increase from 20 euros to 26 euros ($28.60) per ton of carbon as of midnight Oct. 8.
- The measure comes as a part of a pledge by the Irish government to increase the price of carbon from 20 euros a ton to 80 euros a ton in 2030.
