Army Corps Head Says Huge Budget Cuts Not His Idea

The head of the Army Corps of Engineers isn’t fully embracing a Trump administration plan to cut his agency’s funding for the coming fiscal year by nearly one-third.

R.D. James, the top civilian official in charge of the Corps, said the plan to slash $2.2 billion from the agency’s current $7 billion budget wasn’t his idea.

“I did not propose that,” James said at a March 12 press conference, one day after the Trump administration released its annual budget request for fiscal 2020.
