Auditors Find EU Countries Flouting Pesticide Reduction Law

European Union countries have largely ignored an EU law requiring pesticide use to be reduced to the minimum necessary, the bloc’s in-house auditors said.

In response, the EU should overhaul the law and make farm subsidy payments conditional on minimizing pesticide use, the European Court of Auditors said in a report on Wednesday. The Court of Auditors regularly issues reports checking the effectiveness of EU policies, which the European Commission must take into account when proposing new laws.
