Boeing Sues to Force U.S. to Pay for Contamination at Old Site

The United States should pay for the costs of investigating and cleaning up contamination at the site of Boeing Co.'s former aircraft manufacturing plant, the company says in a lawsuit filed Friday in a California federal court.

Boeing manufactured or assembled aircraft parts, missile components, and other equipment for the U.S. military at its former plant located in Torrance, Calif. from the 1950s to 1990s. Hazardous substances, including volatile organic compounds, were released and contaminated the soil and groundwater while the government owned facilities at the site from the 1950s through the 1970s.
