Business Groups, Landowners Mobilize to Defend Trump Water Rule

Business groups and landowners are heading to court to support the Trump administration’s new water jurisdiction rule, which is facing legal challenges across the country.

The American Farm Bureau Federation, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, American Petroleum Institute, and others on Thursday sought to take the federal government’s side to fend off a case brought by a coalition of left-leaning states.

At issue is the legality of the recently finalized Navigable Waters Protection Rule, which narrows which types of wetlands and waterways qualify as “waters of the U.S.,” or WOTUS, that are subject to federal Clean Water Act protections.
