California Tells Spray Foam Insulation Makers: Try Harder (1)

Makers of certain spray-on insulation foams are being given 60 days to research safer chemical alternatives in their products after California officials called an industry analysis insufficient and inadequate.

Spray polyurethane foam manufacturers like BASF Corp. and Rhino Linings Corp. have until Aug. 31 to file revised reports to the Department of Toxic Substances Control.

Under the state’s Safer Consumer Products rule, manufacturers selling products in California must study whether product reformulations or design changes could make products safer and report findings to the state.
