Catch Limits for New England Cod Must Be Upheld, Agency Says

A final rule setting annual catch limits and acceptable catches of certain New England cod stocks was designed to prevent overfishing and based on the best available science, the National Marine Fisheries Service tells a Washington, D.C., federal court.

Because the agency’s decision was based on the best available science, its determination should be entitled to deference, according to the motion for summary judgment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
