Chemical Information Gaps Hold Up Rulemaking: EU Agency Head

The European Union still has major gaps in information for chemicals rulemaking, especially on how substances are used in products and their effects on people’s real-life exposure to chemicals, the head of Europe’s chemical agency said.

The EU should aim to have a single accessible platform for data on chemicals that regulators worldwide can use as a common resource, according to Bjorn Hansen, executive director of the European Chemicals Agency.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s eChemPortal is a starting point, according to Hansen.
