Court Cancels Montana Oil Leases, Citing Land Bureau Failures (1)

A Montana federal court vacated 287 oil and gas leases on 145,000 acres of land on Friday, saying the Bureau of Land Management failed to fully consider environmental and climate change impacts.

WildEarth Guardians, an environmental group, had alleged the BLM violated the National Environmental Policy Act when it held two oil and gas lease sales in Montana in 2017 and 2018. The U.S. District Court for the District of Montana agreed, vacating all the leases and requiring BLM to conduct a full environmental analysis.
