Eaton Corp. Defeats Bid for New Trial in Asbestos Exposure Suit

A former Navy electrician who allegedly developed asbestos-related mesothelioma after working in shipyards near San Francisco failed to convince a California appeals court that he was entitled to a new trial, after a jury found in favor of electrical component manufacturer Eaton Corp.

Norman Estes sued Eaton over his alleged exposure to harmful levels of asbestos contained in a product manufactured by Eaton’s predecessor, Cutler-Hammer Inc. Cutler-Hammer built a cover, installed above electrical contacts at the shipyards, that contained asbestos fibers Estes inhaled, he said.
