The House easily passed a pair of bills Dec. 12 designed to speed up the permitting of hydropower projects. Both measures passed the House on voice votes, having previously garnered bipartisan support.
One bill (H.R. 2872) orders the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to speed up its permitting for hydropower development at existing dams. The bill also tells FERC, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Interior Department to come up with a list of the nation’s nonpowered dams that have the greatest potential for hydropower development.
