Federal Climate Review for Oil and Gas Leasing Again Falls Short

Federal regulators failed to properly consider the climate impacts of oil and gas leasing in Wyoming, even after getting a second shot at the analysis, a federal court ruled Friday.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia rejected the Bureau of Land Management’s latest environmental review for a swath of leases approved in 2015 and 2016—the latest in a series of court rulings that have faulted federal agencies for not adequately grappling with the greenhouse gas emissions associated with fossil fuel development.
