California is on its way to banning the sale of filtered cigarettes to keep butts from covering beaches, clogging roadways, and being eaten by marine life.
The California state Senate May 23 passed a bill 25-9 that would ban filtered cigarettes, plastic tips for cigarillos, and one-time e-cigarettes.
The bill, which now moves to the assembly, allows multiple-use electronic cigarettes as long as they are recyclable or manufacturers establish a take-back program.
