California has joined New York and three other states in a lawsuit against the Trump administration over vehicle fuel efficiency regulations.

The lawsuit alleges that the administration is illegally delaying a rule—which had been set to take effect this past July—that requires automakers to produce more efficient vehicles.

The 2015 Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act required all federal agencies to increase civil penalty rates, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (D) said in a statement.
