Green Groups Continue Fight Over California Tree Thinning Plan

Environmental and conservation groups are challenging a ruling that upheld the U.S. Forest Service’s approval of a forest thinning project in California’s Los Padres National Forest, according to a notice of appeal filed in a California federal court.

Mountain Communities for Fire Safety, Los Padres Forestwatch, and Earth Island Institute argued the agency approved the Cuddy Valley Forest Health and Fuels Reduction Project without proper environmental review.

The project involves brush cutting and controlled burns on 1,200 acres of the national forest in the Mt. Pinos Place Management Area.
