Kinder Morgan Sued Over Pensions of Predecessor Companies

Kinder Morgan Inc. was hit with a proposed class action claiming it’s shortchanging the pensions of thousands of retirees who worked for predecessor companies by “silently” revising and reinterpreting their retirement plan, according to a lawsuit filed in the Eastern District of Michigan.

The lawsuit was filed Monday on behalf of current and former employees who worked for American Natural Resources Co. and Coastal Corp. before those companies came under Kinder Morgan’s control. The employees say this series of corporate transactions caused them to lose out on valuable benefits from their prior pension plans that should have been preserved.
