Nuclear Waste Suit Warrants Supreme Court Review, Advocates Say

A California public safety advocacy group that unsuccessfully challenged Holtec International Inc.'s nuclear waste disposal practices at a decommissioned plant wants the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh in.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit’s decision keeps private parties from asserting claims against private party licensees of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, “regardless of legal theory, the egregiousness of their conduct, and the views of five circuit courts,” Public Watchdogs said in its petition to the Supreme Court.
