Suit Over Beach Sand Mining Funding on Hold for Interior Review

A lawsuit challenging a Trump administration rule allowing federal funds to be used for beach-related sand removal from protected coastal barriers will be put on hold while new agency officials review it, a New York federal court ruled Tuesday.

The Department of the Interior said in 2019 it would fund projects that dredge sand from areas within the Coastal Barrier Resources System to be used for beaches outside of the system.
