Trump Administration Spares Northwest Dams That Can Block Salmon

A Trump administration environmental analysis called for preserving four lower Snake River dams in the Pacific Northwest, likely unleashing another round of litigation from tribes and environmentalists seeking dam demolition to save endangered salmon.

The Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and the Bonneville Power Administration released the Columbia River System Operations Final Environmental Impact Statement on Friday. It came in response to a 2016 court order that the government should consider possible demolition of the dams, which block salmon migration and reduce fish habitat.
