Google’s Bid to Buy Fitbit Faces In-Depth EU Probe, Reuters Says

Google faces a lengthy European Union probe into its takeover of Fitbit Inc. despite the company’s pledge not to use health data from the fitness tracker for advertising, Reuters reported.

The European Commission is unconvinced by the U.S. tech giant’s proposed commitments and is poised to open an extended investigation into the deal by Aug. 4, Reuters said, citing people familiar with the case. A longer probe would push a deadline to approve or veto the deal until later this year.
