Mississippi Nursing Facility Loses Fight Over Medicaid Rate

Methodist Specialty Care Center failed to show Mississippi’s Medicaid agency acted improperly when it lowered the facility’s reimbursement rate for its property costs based on a new facility’s construction costs, the state’s top court said.

The Mississippi Division of Medicaid didn’t act arbitrarily when it came up with the new rate based on what it would cost Methodist to build a new facility, taking into account that Methodist already had recouped most of its original construction costs and fears that Methodist would receive a windfall if it retained the original rate, the Mississippi Supreme Court said Thursday.
