New Jersey Chiropractor to End Fraud Claims for $2 Million (1)

A New Jersey chiropractor has agreed to pay $2 million to resolve False Claims Act allegations that he billed Medicare for medically unnecessary injections and knee braces, the Justice Department said.

David Podell also allegedly solicited and received kickbacks from a manufacturer of knee braces in exchange for ordering more braces for his clinic, the DOJ said in a Monday statement.

This settlement follows an earlier settlement with seven former Osteo Relief Institutes and their owners, who agreed to pay the government collectively more than $7.1 million to resolve FCA liability, the DOJ said.
