Novel Nationwide Opioid Settlement Structure Blessed by Court

More than 2,000 local governments waging historic lawsuits against opioid makers, distributors, and pharmacies received a federal court’s blessing to pursue a novel settlement structure that could lead to billions in recovery for communities dealing with the opioid crisis.

The novel plan, approved by a federal judge in Ohio Sept. 11 and opposed by nearly 40 attorneys general, may provide leverage for more than 34,000 U.S. local governments to enter a universal settlement with some of the largest companies in the nation, including Johnson & Johnson, Cardinal Health, and CVS.
