Univ. of Rochester Agrees to HIPAA Settlement With New York

The University of Rochester Medical Center has reached a $15,000 settlement with New York state over potential violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act involving protected health information (PHI) that was shared with a departing employee, according to an announcement from the New York Attorney General’s Office Dec. 2.

The settlement agreement is intended to prevent data breaches, and also requires the medical center to train all employees who have access to PHI on security policies and procedures revised after the spring data breach.
