Beware of At-Home Covid-19 Test Kits, FDA Warns Consumers

March 20, 2020, 11:17 PM

The FDA told consumers Friday that it hasn’t authorized at-home testing kits for consumers to test themselves for the new coronavirus.

“The FDA sees the public health value in expanding the availability of COVID-19 testing through safe and accurate tests that may include home collection, and we are actively working with test developers in this space,” the agency said in a statement.

The Food and Drug Administration warned that fraudulent health claims, tests, and products can pose serious health risks and could keep patients from seeking necessary care. The agency has already dinged several companies for falsely advertising products as preventives for the virus.
