Students of Failed Massachusetts College Lose Privacy Lawsuit

Three former students at Mount Ida College in Massachusetts couldn’t show that the now-closed school unlawfully shared their information with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

The transfer of records served the legitimate purpose of helping students enroll at UMass in light of Mount Ida’s inability to continue operations, Judge Richard G. Stearns of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts ruled May 24.

Mount Ida ceased operations in May 2018 after failing to agree to a merger with Lasell College in Newton, Mass., the court said.
