Aegis Insurance Unit Must Defend Policyholder in Renter Row

An Aegis insurance unit must pay for a property manager’s defense in a potential class action from a former tenant over withheld security deposits, the Eleventh Circuit held.

The tenant, Nichon Roberson, sued Atlanta-based ECI Management LLC in 2017 for allegedly failing to provide outgoing tenants with a list of property damages that justified withholding security deposits.

ECI’s insurance policy with Aegis Electric & Gas International Services Ltd. would cover some relief a state court grants to Roberson, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit said Thursday.
